Tunisia purchased soft wheat and feed barley, while South Korean and Taiwanese buyers secured corn from Cargill and Brazilian suppliers.

🇹🇳 Tunisia buys 75,000 tonnes of soft wheat and 50,000 tonnes of feed barley

Tunisia’s state grain agency is believed to have purchased about 75,000 tonnes of soft wheat and 50,000 tonnes of animal feed barley from optional origins in an international tender, according to European traders.

📌 Soft wheat purchases:

  • 25,000 tonnes from Grainstar: $286.00/tonne C&F
  • 25,000 tonnes from Grainstar: $289.00/tonne C&F
  • 25,000 tonnes from Cargill: $289.57/tonne C&F
  • Total volume: 75,000 tonnes
  • Shipment period: August 25 – September 30, depending on origin

📌 Feed barley purchases:

  • 25,000 tonnes from CHS: $266.48/tonne C&F
  • 25,000 tonnes from Casillo: $269.69/tonne C&F
  • Total volume: 50,000 tonnes
  • Shipment period: August 25 – September 25, depending on origin

⚠️ The tender allowed grain from optional origins. However, suppliers offering Black Sea grain may not invoke force majeure because of the ongoing conflict and must provide grain from an alternative origin if necessary.

📈 Tunisia’s latest wheat purchase was significantly more expensive than its previous tenders. On July 21, the agency bought about 100,000 tonnes at a lowest price of $270.00/tonne C&F, compared with $268.16/tonne C&F for 75,000 tonnes purchased on June 4.

Traders attributed the sharp rise in wheat prices largely to concerns that Ukrainian and Russian attacks on grain ports and shipping could restrict Black Sea export flows.
